Marcia’s Delicious Pizza Sauce
January 31, 2009 § 1 Comment
My next door neighbor gave me a spoonful of this sauce last week and it was so terrific, I promptly asked her for the recipe. She kindly obliged and I made this sauce myself the very next day. Thank you, Marcia!
2 cans Italian stewed tomatoes (include liquid from can)
1 6-oz can tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon chile powder
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon honey*
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon fresh parsley (if available, otherwise use dry)
1-2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
*If following a strict vegan diet, substitute with maple syrup.
1. Sautee garlic and onion on medium-heat until translucent (approx. 7 minutes). Add all other ingredients, except the spices. Cook until boiling.
2. Add spices. Decrease heat so sauce cooks at a steady simmer. Simmer approx. 20-30 minutes so the sauce thickens up.
3. Take off stove; cool until luke warm.
4. Dump sauce in Cuisinart or blender and blend until smooth.
P.S. If you’re on the hunt for a tasty pizza dough recipe, here’s one you can whip up in five minutes flat!
